Limi is a name of an place located in Humla district, northwestern Nepal. There are three villages and 1,700 people who live the simplest lifestyle with an undiluted unique Tibetan culture!!

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the Asian continent, and it's resolved national conflicts cause great sufferings to the people and the economy.

Limi is unknown caused by following reasons:
  1
the geographical remoteness causes the isolation. There are footways which are less than a meter wide. The villagers mainly work as farmers.
2 the people have no modern education. The governing language of Nepal, which is Nepalese, is a foreign language for them. Therefore, it is almost impossible for them to raise their issue in the government. In fact, not a single person from Limi has been or is in the governmental offices of Nepal.
3 the people of Limi are some of the purest ethnic Tibetans on this world but they don't get same support as the Tibetans in Tibet to preserve their culture and fight for their rights. Especially, they don't have leaders like His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Limi has rich cultural heritages in their monasteries!!

There are over ninety monks and three monasteries which serves as the centers for

  • performing religious activities to seek for protection, guidance, enlightenment and remedy for illness, and misfortune

  • educating the children in Tibetan language, Buddhism, and other cultural arts without ever existing a proper school in the region.

  • offering the best skills and wealth in order to achieve the ultimate liberation from cycling birth and death!!
Weltse Rinchen Ling monasery was built in 10th century and was the biggest monastery.
Zang Phelgye Ling monastery was found in 12th century and relocated the monastery some hundred years ago.
Til Kumzon Dhongag Choe Ling was also established in a retreat cave in 12th century.
The monastic events are scheduled for the significant dates to commemorate and celebrate deeds of the historical Buddha, and other Buddhists teachers.
Limi has no separate history from Ngari, western part of Tibet. Social order of Limi people is how Tibetan used to rule the country in the past!!
