Ngari: Home of the Holiest Mt Kailash

 


Ngari covers 345,000 square kilometers and its population is 50,000, which 80% are semi-nomads.

The western part of Tibet is called "Ngari". Nowadays, it's commonly referred as Alli.

Ngari is

the home of the holiest Mt Kailash and Manasarovar lake,

the land where the most ancient Tibetan Shang-Shung civilization took place,and

the source of the four greatest Asian rivers: Senge Khabab (Indus), Tachog Khabab (Brahmaputra), Langchen Khabab (Sutlej) and Maja Khabab (Karnali).

  Ngari include the following three regions/ kingdoms.
 

Guge: the ruins of the Guge fortress tells the life history of the Guge Kingdom flourished in 10th Century and how the Buddhism was revived by inviting the great Indian master, Atisha.

 

Purang: the bordering town where Indians, Nepalese, Chinese, and Tibetans buy and sell their goods. Pilgrims and tourists visit Korcheg, Gungphure and other monasteries and take good rest at the beautiful town!!

 

Rutog: thousands of birds migrate and hatch out their eggs at the sky lake called Palgon Tso. Nomads take their herds leisurely on the grassland.
